How do I play?

Hold the phone in landscape. The stick on the left swings the speargun; the trigger on the right fires. Tapping the water swings the gun toward that spot without firing, so you can line up and still choose your moment. A round is 60 seconds and 10 shots, and whichever runs out first ends it. Three hits in a row win a shot back, and so do the treasure, the sub and the golden rush.

Where the points come from

There is a full scoring page inside the game: tap How to score on the title screen, or Scoring on the results screen. Every figure on it is read from the game's own rules, so it is never out of date.

The short version: each creature has its own value, and its outline colour tells you how rare it is. A clean shot in the front third of a big one pays 20% more. Every three hits in a row steps a multiplier up to ×5, and twelve in a row sets off a FRENZY of free shots. The treasure in the chest pays 2,000 and triples everything for nine seconds, and sinking the yellow sub (three hits) pays 5,000.

My shot connected but nothing happened

Two things can cause that, and both are deliberate. A creature that has dived out of the spear's plane is drawn behind the water — dimmer, washed toward the water's own colour — and a spear travels in one plane, so it passes by. Wait for it to rise. Second, the harpoon stops on the first thing it touches, so a minnow crossing in front of a marlin will take the shot.

Why did I lose points?

You speared the protected animal, the dolphin. It outlines in mint, which nothing else does. It costs points, breaks your combo and spends the shot, but your score never drops below zero.

I bought a reef and it hasn't appeared

Open Maps and tap Restore purchases. The game asks the store what your Apple ID or Google account actually owns, so a reinstall or a second device gets your reefs back. If it still doesn't appear, email us with the account you bought it on and we'll sort it out.

How do I get the other harpoon guns?

By playing. There are seven, and each unlocks at a milestone: play 3 rounds, land 150 fish, sink the sub 3 times, and so on. Open Maps to see the rack and how close you are to each one. They can't be bought, and they're looks only: no gun shoots any better than another.

Where are the Kelp Forest and the Deep?

They're coming in a later update. A reef only shows under Maps once it can actually be bought, so they'll appear there when they're ready.

Does buying a reef make the game easier?

No, and it can't. The clock, the shot count and the scoring work the same on every reef, and high scores are kept per reef so no two are ever compared. The coral reef is the only home of three creatures, and even so it reaches a lower top score than the free wreck does.

Turning the sound down

Tap Sound on the title screen. Music, sound effects and vibration each have their own setting, so you can play your own music and still hear the harpoon.

Is there advertising?

No, and there never will be. See the privacy page: the game collects nothing and makes no network calls of its own.
